Digrado- Elementary Teacher
[Get
Ahead Math] allows students to take themselves that extra step.
It removes the immediate instruction that I would have to spend
with every single student and gives them individualized attention
and allows them to go at their own pace.
Get
Ahead Math does make my job easier in the sense that I don’t
have to be directing all 30 kids at one time. I can sit back and
they can interact with the computer and they can practice their
math skills, and where individual problems arise I can go ahead
and trouble shoot those as opposed to a traditional classroom where
I have 30 kids with questions at one time. This is where they become
the problem solvers, where you teach them how to use the program
and how to solve their own issues. So I can target my time, my energy
to students who just struggle at deeper levels.
We’ve
integrated Get Ahead Math in many different levels. We
started with a pilot program last year and we brought it to our
middle school this year and we’ve used it as an intervention
program. We targeted some 7-8th graders who obviously had some holes
in their math skills. We ran them through 6-8 week sessions. Their
grades in class went from Fs to Bs, Ds to Cs, Ds to Bs. Their test
results were much much better. Overall it was more than a huge success.
Get
Ahead Math does actually help with the standardized tests and
it’ll show you some things the teacher might not show you
in class, like a way to do a problem instead of having to go this
whole long way, it could show you this shorter and simpler way to
get to the answer of a problem instead of having to go all around
and then ending up with that same simple way like at the end.
He was
excited again about math and learning and he had talked about the
work that he has done and the tests that he had achieved and how
well he had done on the quizzes. So now I think he’s really
ready for going back to school. I think he’ll do really good
as a result. I think it was Get Ahead Math that has made
him ready to walk back into the classroom confident.
